Door County Festivals You Can't Miss

One of the best things about living and working in Door County is that every season comes with its own reason to celebrate. From summer fireworks over the bay to crisp autumn weekends filled with cider, music, and parade floats, there’s always something happening here that brings people together.

At the Blacksmith Inn, we meet guests every year who arrive for one festival and end up planning their next visit before they even check out. If you’re wondering when to experience Door County at its liveliest, here are some of the biggest and most beloved festivals you won’t want to miss.

Beer Festival/Wine Festival

If your perfect vacation includes local flavors, live music, and a relaxed crowd, Beer Festival and Wine Festival, held on back to back weekends in June, are hard to beat. With a shuttle stop just one block from the inn, there’s no need for anybody to miss out on the fun either!

The Door County Beer Festival draws breweries from across Wisconsin and beyond, giving visitors a chance to sample craft beers while enjoying live music, local food truck cuisine, and bucolic scenery. It’s one of those events where you can spend the afternoon discovering a new favorite brew and chatting with brewers who genuinely love what they do.

Wine lovers have their own celebration, too. Door County Wine Festival showcases the region’s wineries, fruit wines, and local specialties. It’s a great introduction to the area’s unique wine culture, especially if you’ve never tried cherry wine before.

These festival weekends tend to book up quickly, and for good reason. The atmosphere is festive without feeling overwhelming, making it easy to spend the day exploring and the evening unwinding back at the inn.

Fyr Bal

Every spring in late June, Door County celebrates the end of winter with one of the region’s most unique traditions: Fyr Bal (pronounced “fear”, not “fur”!).

Held in Ephraim, Fyr Bal is a Scandinavian-inspired bonfire festival where residents and visitors gather along the shoreline to burn evergreen trees in massive ceremonial fires. It’s our way of saying goodbye to winter and welcoming warmer days ahead.

There’s music, dancing, food, and a genuine sense of community that makes the evening feel special. If you’ve never spent an evening by the water watching giant bonfires light up the night sky, this is an experience you’ll remember.

For many locals, Fyr Bal feels like the unofficial start of the Door County season.

Fourth of July

The Fourth of July in Door County is pure summer magic.

Every community has its own parade, fireworks display, and hometown traditions, but everybody knows that we do it biggest and best here in Baileys Harbor. Live music all day, a rocking refreshment tent slinging beers, burgers, and brats, plus tons of food trucks, crafts, exhibitions, and more! Families line the streets early with lawn chairs and coffee in hand while kids wave flags and wait impatiently to scoop up candy from parade floats.

By evening, the waterfront comes alive with fireworks reflecting over the bay. There’s an unmistakable energy throughout the peninsula, and its epicenter is Baileys Harbor.

The Fourth is one of our busiest times at the Blacksmith Inn because guests love pairing the festivities with beach days, boating, and long summer sunsets. If you’re planning a July visit, booking early is always a good idea.

Autumnfest

As summer fades and the leaves begin to change, Door County shifts into one of its most beautiful seasons.

Autumnfest, held towards the start of September, celebrates everything people love about fall here: cool air, brilliant colors, harvest markets, live music, and local food. Visitors can spend the day browsing artisan vendors, sipping warm drinks, and taking scenic drives through orchards and forests bursting with color.

There’s something especially relaxing about Door County in autumn. The pace slows just enough for people to truly soak it all in.

Many guests tell us this becomes their favorite season after just one visit.

Fall Fest

If there’s one festival that completely transforms Door County each year, it’s Fall Fest in Sister Bay.

This iconic weekend draws huge crowds for its parade, live entertainment, food vendors, carnival atmosphere, and legendary fish boil demonstrations. The streets fill with visitors in flannel shirts and knit hats, all embracing the spirit of the season.

Yes, it’s busy, but that’s part of the charm.

Fall Fest has become a tradition for countless families who return year after year. There’s an excitement in the air that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself. It feels like the entire county comes together for one giant autumn celebration.

One thing I always tell guests: every festival in Door County offers something different.

Some weekends are lively and energetic. Others are cozy and community-focused. But all of them showcase what makes this peninsula special: welcoming people, beautiful scenery, and traditions that keep visitors coming back year after year.

At the Blacksmith Inn, we love helping guests plan around festival weekends, whether that means recommending the best parade route, pointing you toward local wineries and breweries, or simply making sure you have a quiet place to relax after a full day of celebrating.

Whenever you decide to visit, there’s a good chance Door County will be celebrating something.

And honestly, that’s exactly how we like it.
