One of my absolute favorite rituals to recommend to our guests is a visit to our local farmer’s markets. While many travelers think of Door County purely for its iconic cherry orchards, towering bluffs, or shoreline fish boils, our vibrant community markets offer a direct window into the heart, soil, and artisan spirit of this peninsula.
Whether you want to gather ingredients for a picnic on the rocks at Schoolhouse Beach, pick up some fresh artisan cheese, or find a hand-crafted souvenir made by a local maker, here is your insider’s guide to navigating the farmer’s markets of Door County, straight from your innkeeper.
Right in Our Backyard: The Baileys Harbor Farmer's Market
When: Sundays, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Mid-May through Mid-October)
Where: Town Hall Lawn, 2392 County Road F, Baileys Harbor
Naturally, I have to start with our hometown market! Just right across the street from the inn, the Baileys Harbor Sunday Market is held right on the Town Hall lawn. It’s got an intimate, deeply welcoming community vibe.
What I love most about this market is the incredible mix. You’ll find tables overflowing with just-picked seasonal vegetables, gorgeous fresh-cut flowers, local cheeses, and mouthwatering homemade bakery items. There are also fantastic local artisans selling handcrafted jewelry, pottery, candles, and art, plus a few food trucks. In particular, I can’t recommend Cindy’s fresh egg rolls enough!
Innkeeper’s Tip: Make a morning of it! Grab a coffee, stroll through the market stalls, and take advantage of the free community yoga session held nearby in the park on Sunday mornings, then head back to your whirlpool tub or private balcony at the inn to relax.

Part of the charm of staying in Door County is that no matter what day you arrive, there is almost always a market happening somewhere up and down the peninsula. Here is a handy lineup to help you plan your itinerary:

Mondays (3:00 PM - 6:00 PM) - Ephraim: Located right next to The Red Putter on Water Street (Highway 42). It’s a great afternoon stop if you’re looking for picnic fixings to take to an outdoor show.

Tuesdays (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) - Jacksonport: Held at Lakeside Park right on the shore of Lake Michigan. You can grab your produce and then take a peaceful walk along the sandy beach just steps away.

Wednesdays (9:30 AM - 1:30 PM) - Fish Creek: Tucked away at The Settlement Shops just south of downtown Fish Creek. This location is surrounded by great little boutique shops and shady trees.

Thursdays (4:00 PM - 7:00 PM) - Egg Harbor: An evening market hosted at the Peg Egan Performing Arts Center. Perfect for picking up dinner ingredients or local treats after a day of gallery-hopping.

Saturdays (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM) - Sturgeon Bay: Located downtown at 3rd Avenue and Nebraska Street near the library. This is one of the larger markets on the peninsula, bustling with energy, local growers, and food trucks.

Saturdays (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) - Sister Bay: Held at the historic Corner of the Past Museum grounds on Fieldcrest Road. Shopping for local goods surrounded by old-growth trees and historic buildings is an experience all on its own.
Tips for Market Hopping Like a Local

Bring cash and reusable bags: While many larger vendors now take digital payments, cash is still king for smaller farm stands, fresh flowers, and quick bakery purchases. Bringing your own tote bag makes hauling your fresh cherries, greens, and artisan goods a breeze.

Go early for the best selection: Door County’s seasonal produce (especially our famous strawberries in June and tart cherries later in the summer) tends to sell out fast.

Talk to the growers: Our vendors are farmers, bakers, beekeepers, and artists who live and work right here year-round. Don’t hesitate to ask them how they grew a specific vegetable or what flavor jam they recommend. They love sharing the stories behind their craft.

Build a picnic basket: Pick up a loaf of crusty artisan bread, a wedge of local Wisconsin cheese, some seasonal fruit, and a jar of local honey at one of the markets, then take your bounty over to Ridges Sanctuary or a scenic overlook at one of our many state parks for the ultimate al fresco lunch.
